The Challenge
This project's primary challenge was designing a user-friendly solution that simplifies the ticketing process for the city of São Paulo citizens who use public transportation. Given the city's diverse population and the high daily ridership, it was crucial to create features within the app that are intuitive, secure, and accessible to users with varying levels of technological proficiency—including many elderly users who rely on public transit daily.
The Solution
To address the problem, I designed a QR code-based ticketing system with a guided onboarding process to introduce users to the new features. This solution allows commuters to purchase tickets using multiple payment methods, including debit, credit, and Pix—a widely used instant payment system in Brazil. To enhance security and efficiency, QR codes for bus tickets have a limited validity period and refresh every 20 seconds, ensuring seamless validation during boarding. Additionally, the app consolidates all ticket management functions in one place, offering users greater flexibility and convenience, ultimately creating a more seamless and user-centric experience.
